Kevin Sankoorikal
Fundraising Chair
My name is Kevin Sankoorikal. I'm a fourth year biology major and psychology minor in the College of Arts and Sciences. I'm currently in the process of applying to medical schools. As the fundraising chair of AMSA, my hope is that we can raise as much money as possible for Doctors Without Borders.
Apart from AMSA, I also engage in several other extracurricular activities such as working for the Laurie Lab in the Cell Biology department of the UVA medical school. In addition, I enjoy playing basketball and working out at the gym.

Udeyvir Cheema
Weekly Service Chair
I'm a second year in the College majoring in economics and biology. After graduation, I'm hoping to go on into med school, but, beyond that, I don't really have anything planned out. When I joined the AMSA board for this year, I did so to help move AMSA towards a more friendly, open community. A big part of the premed lifestyle is learning to deal with time constraints, stress, and the feeling of constant competition. I want AMSA to be there as an escape from this attitude.
Beyond AMSA, I'm also an exec for the Sikh Students Association and East Coast Showdown, the very first bhangra and raas competition to be held at UVA. I'm also really passionate about football (HTTR) and basketball (#DCrising) so I try to fit in intramural teams for those sports into my schedule every semester as well. Besides that, I'm starting to learn how to cook and I also spend a lot of time on Netflix, reddit, and Twitter.

Rana Rahman
Monthly Service Chair
Hi! I'm Rana Rahman, a second year in the College studying Biology and Psychology. I hope to one day become a pediatric cardiologist (fingers-crossed) and am so thankful to be preparing for that here at UVa. AMSA is one of my largest involvements at the University, and I would love to see it grow even stronger in commitment and size over these next few years. The passion that pre-meds have for service is unbeatable, and seeing that channeled in a group setting is incredible.
Beyond AMSA, I am involved in Ektaal, the University's only South Asian fusion a cappella group, Madison House, and the Muslim Student Association. When I'm not in class or studying for my next test, I'm usually singing, dancing to J. Cole, eating salted caramel gelato, quoting vines, or driving around with my friends blasting throwback music.

Sami Strohm
Professional Development
Hi, my name is Sami and I am a second year in the College this year! I will be applying to the neuroscience major, and hope to also major in psychology. After graduation, I hope to enroll in an MD/PhD program to pursue a career in neurology and neuroscience research, particularly studying neurodegenerative diseases. For this year, I hope that in my position of Professional Development Chair I can help make experts in healthcare and medicine easily accessible to members by bringing them to meetings, while also providing a plethora of advancement opportunities like CPR training, workshops, and shadowing.
Beyond AMSA, I am a resident advisor this year (#WatsonWebbForLife), and I am a part of University Programs Council. I also participate in the Pancakes for Parkinson’s Exec Committee and HackCville, and do research on the sodium ion channel under the Department of Anesthesiology at UVAHS. When I’m not sitting in classes or meetings, I love spending time with my residents, running or working out at the AFC, organizing, and doing graphic design

Hannah Chung
Profession Development
Hello! My name is Hannah Chung and I’m currently a third-year undergraduate majoring in biochemistry and minoring in Spanish! While I’m still deciding whether or not to take a gap year, I know that I will be applying to medical school soon in the hopes of pursuing a career as a physician! My hope for this year is that AMSA will become a community that grows and develops pre-meds into better people, equipping them with experiences that teach them new things and challenging previously held conceptions or fears about medicine!

When I’m not in the library studying or organizing events for AMSA, you can find me in the practice modules of Old Cabell playing the piano, in the lab culturing cells, or working out at the AFC! I also live in the Spanish House where I enjoy chatting with my housemates about anything and everything! I have a love for crafting; I sewed a t-shirt quilt together this past summer and crocheted a blanket the summer before!
I’m super excited for this year and hope to get to know all of you! If you have any questions, feel free to email me!

Vashali Jain
President
Hi everyone! I am Vashali Jain, a 4th year Neuroscience Major. I am honored to be serving as president this year! I have high hopes that AMSA will serve as a community to guide incoming first years and other pre-medical students to help them navigate the premedical application process, but also just UVA in general! This year, we plan on holding events such at suturing workshops and medical student panels to gain further insight from our former peers as to what is to come. We also plan on focusing efforts to give back to our community and helping out the best that we can through volunteering at Challah for Hunger and holding fundraisers both for disasters like Hurricane Harvey and other medical organizations like Doctor's Without Borders.
I am also currently studying neural differentiation from NPC's in Michael McConnell's lab. I am also involved with Madison House's Adopt a Grandparent program. In my spare time I love to dance, belt Disney, and experimenting in the kitchen. If you have any questions about being pre-med, pre-research, or life in general feel free to reach out to me!

Vikram Gupta
Fundraising Chair
I am a second year biology major and I intend to (soon) declare a minor in Spanish. I plan to attend medical school after graduation to become a doctor. I have very little idea of what kind of doctor I want to be yet, but I have plenty of time to figure that out! I want to help AMSA grow into a larger organization, recruit and retain members, and host plenty of fun events that combine our collective passion for medicine and hanging out with friends!
Outside of AMSA, I am a member of the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad as an EMT-B. I spent my last summer working in the Vascular Research Laboratory over at the hospital, shadowing my PI in the OR, and running Rescue. I am also the Secretary of the Club Dodgeball team, which is my favorite way to de-stress after a long week of classes. I love any kind of working out, so I am also a member of an IM Rec flag football team and I hit the gym whenever possible. If any of my hobbies interest you, please reach out to me and I get help you get involved too!
